Sydney Autumn Social Calendar

Mardi Gras Sydney Autumn Social Calendar

Autumn in Sydney is full of unique events to fill up your social calendar for the next three months, and with the weather finally calming down there's no better time to experience them. I'll unfortunately be leaving Australia at the end of April so some of these things I'll not be able to do, however in my last two months or so I may as well go out with a bang.

5th Mar - Mardi Gras
The notorious Mardi Gras is probably the biggest event in Autumn for any Sydneysider. With a number of performances, sporting events, picnics, parties and of course the enormous parade it's an absolutely packed day riding deep into the night (or rather the early morning). Rivaling Sydney's New Years in terms of the evening celebrations you'll have no problem finding a party or few to go to. This year the parade starts at 7:45pm running for a good 3.5 hours on Oxford and Flinder's Street.

12th Mar - Horror Movie Campout
If horror movies make you freak out as much as I hope they do then step it up from the indoor Scream marathon in your bedroom and take it outside. This year Sydney is hosting the annual Horror Movie Campout, a must for those people who actually enjoy the feeling of being almost murdered by their own overactive heart. All you need is a tent, some bedding, a chair and hopefully a killer costume to enjoy the two classic horror movies and bands. Although the event officially takes place in Gosford it's close enough to Sydney that we can forgive.

10th Apr - Daughter at Enmore Theatre
Now of course over Autumn there will be a number of awesome bands playing in the Sydney area, however one that I'm really looking forward to (and therefore you should too) is Daughter at the Enmore. The English band will be playing their new album Not to Disappear.

16th-22nd May - Sydney Writer's Festival
Considering you're reading a blog right now I suspect a few of you will be interested in the idea of a number of authors, poets and writers coming together to talk about what they love. With workshops, talks and theatre performances galore the Sydney Writer's Festival based primarily in Walsh Bay is a must-see to end Autumn. The full program of events will be announced at the end of March.

25th May - TEDxSydney
The 2016 TEDxSydney conference will take place this year at the Sydney Opera House, inviting some of the world's most influential people from all walks of life to talk for 18 minutes about Technology, Entertainment and/or Design. The event is held to promote the spreading of important ideas to spark discussion.
