Byron Bay Photo Diary; Australia

When visiting Australia as a tourist there are a number of places that people recommend that you should visit and some that you've found popular in certain guides. Neither of which tend to overlap. To me Byron Bay is the kind place that you hear mostly from hearsay. Although it's a popular destination for travelers you're more likely to hear people who have actually visited the place raving about it, and those that haven't give it a bad rep. For me I was initially advised against traveling there by a friend who had previously lived near Byron Bay and just simply didn't like it. Thankfully I had the opportunity of seeing the coastal town and it remains as one of my favourite places in Australia.

The town had brought up a lot of controversy in the past few years due to its sudden commercialization. People would move to Byron Bay as a king of haven away from Sydney, and then as more and more people heard about it, it has slowly become a miniature Sydney. However this doesn't mean it's not an amazing place to visit. Although its sacredness has seemingly been tainted, as a first time traveler to the area, it still obviously has a lot to offer. My experience of Byron Bay is a constantly fond memory, from the extremely friendly people who I met in bars and hostels to the walks and beach.
